Dancing with the Stars – Fans Support Cloris Leachman

October 8, 2008 · 1 Comment

I predicted Cloris Leachman’s time was coming to an end on Dancing with the Stars but I underestimated the appeal of entertainment. Although this is a show about dancing, the entertainment factor trumped dancing ability. Maybe it is a sign of the times: we need something to lighten us up. Cloris certainly provides a lighter moment.

We started the elimination show this week with nine dancers… and there are still nine. Dancing with the Stars chose not to eliminate any dancers because of the premature departure of Misty May-Treanor due to an achilles tendon injury. In order to keep the suspense of the elimination show, they did not announce this until the last few minutes. They then also revealed the celebrity with the lowest score who would have been off the show. The lucky celebrity was chef Rocco DiSpirito. Rocco now gets to perform another week knowing that he is at the bottom of the heap. The scores will be combined over the two weeks so he has a big hole to climb out of.

Cloris Leachman is the only celebrity who is likely to receive lower scores for her dancing and clearly the fans are continuing to support her efforts. So Rocco should savor this week. Unless the ladies get out and vote, vote, vote, he will not be around after next Tuesday.

Then we will see if Cloris can trump the next tier of dancers: Cody Linley, Susan Lucci, Maurice Greene and Lance Bass. Maybe Cloris Leachman’s longevity on the show will be inversely proportional to the performance of the stock market. The worse the financial news get, the more we need her around.
